Canterbury Adventure Race
19th August 2023
Proudly supported by Bivouac Outdoor
Welcome to the Bivouac Outdoor Canterbury Adventure Race, an exciting event run as a fundraiser for Middleton Grange School. We are offering three categories this year, 3 hour, 6 hour, and 9 hour.
This event is still going ahead with the current Covid-19 situation and restrictions.
Event Timing
The times listed for each event below are the course closure times for each event (i.e the maximum time a team can spend out on the course). Most teams can expect to complete the course within this time, with winning teams taking around 2/3 of the allotted time. Teams that finish after the course closure time will be penalised a number of points per minute that they are late.
3hr Race
The 3hr event is designed for families and beginners to adventure racing. If you’re keen to try an adventure race but unsure if you could do it then this is the race for you. The navigation in this event will be easier than in the 6 hour event.
To complete the 3hr event you will need to be able to jog/walk approx. 5km off road, and mountain bike approx. 10km on forestry roads and singletrack. Competitive teams who are aiming to collect all the controls may end up doing more than the stated distances.
6hr Race
The 6 hour event is designed to be an achievable event for all competitors with a reasonable level of fitness and some navigational competency.
To complete the 6 hour event you will need to be able to jog/walk approx. 10km off road, and mountain bike approx. 30km on 4wd trails and singletrack. Competitive teams who are aiming to collect all the controls may end up doing more than the stated distances.
9hr Race
The 9 hour event is designed to be a challenging but achievable event for all competitors with a reasonable level of fitness and some navigational competency.
This year's 9 Hour event will also include a significant (~1hr) water stage. This will be most easily completed in a kayak, but all manner of watercraft are allowed including packrafts, surf ski's, rafts, or even inflatable tubes! You can still enter the 9 Hour even if you do not have access to a watercraft but you will not be able to complete this stage, reducing the total points you are able to accumulate.
To complete the 9 hour event you will need to be able to run/jog approx. 20km off-road, and mountain bike approx. 50km on 4wd trails and singletrack. Competitive teams who are aiming to collect all the controls may end up doing more than the stated distances.
